Batteries Sweden (BASE) Kick-Off

February 10, 2020

The consortium comprising this competence center is a highly interesting one, with a healthy mix of academia, research institutes, and industry. Together with Uppsala University, Chalmers University of Technology, and the Royal Institute of Technology the big three automotive heavy-hitters alongside corporate giants such as ABB and Höganäs, various projects have been proposed that will strive to understand fundamentals of batteries as well as ensure value for end customers. Insplorion and a couple of other smallish companies were also on site, and it’s great to see that the playing field is not only dictated by large enterprises. As such, this was a great opportunity for us to hear where other companies might find such a thing as our InBat battery sensor useful, apart from the obvious.

As I’m sure many people reading this post are aware the surge in the battery sector is not expected to level off anytime soon, rather the opposite, in fact. The industry for—first and foremost—Li-ion batteries is projected to grow exponentially within a considerable timeframe, and it is important to seize the opportunity and enter the market before it is too late. One player that is doing just that, specifically entering the battery cell production, is of course Northvolt, who generously invited the consortium members to Northvolt Labs in Västerås for a quick tour of the site!

More to come once BASE finalizes the organizational structure, so stay tuned!
